Want to slim down & stay healthyRecently, I've grown fat. It's partly bcos my working schedule has resumed to normal hours and I have been indulging myself with great food and watching TV in bed. Hence despite going for swimming more regularly than before, I'm fatter now. Been thinking about jogging everyday like I used to 5 years ago, i just couldn't wake myself up earlier in the morning. At night, I feel lazy.
The good thing is I am less tempted by french fries and burgers nowadays, I will usually have soup noodles in the afternoon. Oh, I am bloody hooked on fried fish bee hoon in Sims Drive Market. It is the last corner stall from the nearest bus stop. The soup is clear and peppery, with fried onion spread on top and a small piece of seaweed as enhancement. The fried fish meat comes separately in a bowl, crispy light brown. I dip it in chili with soy sauce to get a salty flavouring that complements the plain soup bee hoon perfectly.
The other food I am hooked on is claypot rice at Claypotfun. The claypot rice is simple, either just salty, just juicy or just plain. You can order side dishes like Kong Pau Live Frog or Lettuce with Fremented Beancurd to complement the taste of your claypot rice. When you find it hard to dig anymore rice, you can ask the waitors to add soup into the claypot. The soup is SUPERB! It warms up your chest and it is refreshing to the tastebud. The savoury soup is not strongly flavoured but it mixes the residue in the claypot very well. If anybody's interested in dropping by the restaurant, it is at the Big Splash in East Coast.
Good food, good entertainment, good freetime..... how to slim down?? :- P
Hualien & JiufenWe went to Taiwan for holidays in mid March! 3 days were spent in Hualien and 2 days in Jiufen. Mom and I both felt that Hualien's trip was very enjoyable. In contrast, Jiufen was not as fun. Hualien, as we thought, is a very relaxing place. This is a city built next to the Pacific Ocean and the B&B house we stayed in was really near the sea.
In our photos you can see that we have a pretty good view of the ocean from the roof top. Talking 'bout the roof top, that's where we hang our underwear...haha there's a washing machine up there so we washed our clothes and hung them. The room was very comfy too.The bed was simply just a thick mattress but the quilt was homely warm when we sleep in the air-con room at night. The house was also near the city centre so shopping, dining and transportation was pretty convenient. There was even a small morning market that sells fresh fruits, fish, poultry etc.... by the way, Taiwan's food is fresh and delicious.
If you ever switch to TVBS on your cable TV, you will see their youngsters foraging for the best stalls all over Taiwan. Their food LOOKS fingerlicious but I can tell you it TASTES fingerlicious too! Like their Oyster Egg is bloody luscious! It's not the typical kind we have in Singapore - oily, fatty, overloaded with so many 'not so fresh' oysters.... They were smooth, juicy, sweet, sufficient fresh oysters to satisfy your taste buds, and lots of soft cabbages inside. Ahhh... their cabbages are sweet...
The Ocean Theme Park there is not fantastic but seriously more interesting than our Underwater World, reason being there are many sea creature shows and family style amusement facilities. Plus you can take pictures with the dolphins & sealions if you want. I went for the photoshoot with dolphin, it was not only phototaking, you have to interact with the dolphin. You need to caress them, feed them fish, make them feel that you are friendly then it will take photo with you. The staff there was very carefree, they didn't chase us away once they had taken a photo for us, they asked if we want them to take more photos with our cameras and we passed them two. At least 5 photos were taken. Ah hah! Mom took a ride on the amusement facilities for the first time. It was something like a slow roller coaster in water but there were several steep slides that drop us from a height, then SPLASH! You get wet, haha! That was reall fun. I interviewed Mom about her first attempt on something-like-a-rollercoaster, she said it was exciting! This was one of the really COOL part about this trip.
We selected one trail to hike in Taroko for this second visit, it's called "Shakadang". It's actually a walking track built by the Japanese in WWII for accesibility to a dam. The streams inside this gorge were beautiful. The water was clear and there was always a breeze once in a while. We could see many rocks and gorge walls with sedimentary lines.
In the B&B house, there is a little doggie name Sah-gi-ah. It means 'hanger' in hokkien. He was named so because of a mark on his back which looks more like a 人 character to us. He was a fun! He would sit next to our table every morning with his front limbs lifted up, waiting for us to give him somehing on our our dining table. Too bad his owner has a strict diet for him, haha. Our host said he had gained too much weight lately that Sah-gi-ah became a load for him to carry.
Taiwan is really a fun place for me. Good food, fresh air, big ocean, easy transport, friendly people, scary traffic, same language haha....
I will definitely go back there again cos it's big enough for me to explore...
Which folding bike should I buy??Which folding bike should I buy?? I've been cracking my head over which folding bike I should buy.... There are two that I am considering right now: Carry Me Single Speed $699 w/o accessories Smaller wheels/lighter/can add-on front or rear rack to tie up a basket or luggage/cannot trolley with bag/less surface area after folding JZ88 Single Speed $550 w/o accessories Bigger Wheels/heavier/can add-on shopping basket/can also be a basket trolley after folding/less height after folding I've tried the Carry Me in Diginexx. It was quite fun to ride but I was just a bit worried that it might not have the speed and tolerance I will require on the road. Plus, there is no basket in their accessories selection. If I intend to go shopping nearby, I still have to carry a backpack/slingbag. Adding a rack would not be helpful cos I can't fold up after that. Hmmmm.... Seems like the JZ88 is a better choice. Bigger wheels seemingly will give me a more stable ride on the road. The best thing is that it can still fold up halfway with the basket attached, and if I add-on a pannier(basket), It adds up to $700 which is equivalent to a Carry Me that is without any accesories..... I guess it really is better... Hmmm.... try it out... 2月28日 花连之行 势在必行! Woohoo! Shopping's such a good hobby! Shopping is great! Wow, I bought a lot of little items in Bugis Junction after ending work late. It feels so refreshing to buy so many things! I bought a toner, an emulsion, a moisturizing mist and a hand cream at the Skin Food. Exceeded 100, so they gave me free test packs. Haha! The items were rather heavy so when I turn around, about to leave, the sales assistance called out and stopped me. They need to add another bag to hold them from breaking through the bottom of the paper bag! Then I went to ANBC Stationery Store to buy stapler, pen, pencil, mesh bags, erasers and cd wallet. Ho! I ended up walking out of the shopping mall with flying spirit! I didn't realize back then how satisfying shopping can be until now. I guess shopping makes you feel super good when you make it an activity to end a day's hard work. Everybody, don't go shopping on holiday. Go after work, you will feel good and not so guilty for spending those money. Gloomy Day Sop, sop.... I lost my wallet again. Why??????!!!!!!?!?!?!?!?! Why????????!?!?!?!?! WHY?!??!?!?!?!?!??! I was rather sleepy yesterday when I sent my boss to the airport. Everything was fine. We were all relaxed and happily chatting. Then after my boss had entered the checkpoint, Bruno and I strolled casually back to his van. Then I saw a Candy store, thought I could buy some gummies. Thunderstruck! Where's my wallet? Where! We started tracing back the route we had taken. We didn't go to a lot of places in the airport but there was simply no sign of my gorgeous wallet. It's not the first time and in fact I lost my previous wallet at the beginning of the year. It's simply unbelievable how useless I am in taking care of my wallet. Today, I made a definite decision. I bought a big wallet that I can sling on my shoulder. That should make it stay with me even when I am careless! If I still lose my wallet again, I shall not bring anything but cash with me in future! |
